| TN003 - Installing on a SD card
Typically you won't have enough memory space on your internal Zaurus Flash memory to install QuantumSTEP. This can be solved by installing to an SD card.
Note: QuantumSTEP runs much slower from an SD card than from internal memory. We are trying to find the reasons.
Here are the steps:
- Backup all data on your SD card or use a fresh one
- If the card is not already formatted with an EXT2 file system:
- Open a shell on or to your Zaurus
- umount /mnt/card
- mkfs.ext2 -v /dev/mmcda1 - this will reformat the card as EXT2 and wipe out all data!
- Wait approx. 1 minute to complete the process
- eject and reinsert the card
- ln -s /mnt/card/ /home/myPDA
- back in Qtopia, click on the QuantumSTEP installer .ipk file
- Install to Internal Memory (this will nevertheless install most parts to the SD card)
- be patient - installation will take several minutes to a slow card
- The Applications tab should now show the QuantumSTEP icon
- Do never unplug the SD card while running QuantumSTEP
